Last year with a little convincing and help I started as a student at a secondary school nearby. Now that I'm in the end of my second semester of school, I realized that I couldn't have possibly gotten this far without my very good friend Brandy pushing me to do my best. This all began about a month before the fall semester last year. Brandy was planning on starting in a nursing program at the school, and then started to encourage me also to school. So I decided what I wanted to do, then Brandy and I sat down and figured out what classes I would take. Soon after that, we together went down to the campus and got registered for school.

As we both began school, Brandy became very busy with all her schoolwork, but she still took the time to help me with my homework when I needed her. We would even go on long study sessions at the library, some times seeming like they would never end. But Brandy always seemed to brake them up by making me laugh every so often, then make me get right back to work. Now that we are both in our second semester of school, things have gotten a little bit easier for us. I guess we're just getting used to it more now. But we still help each other with projects and homework. And she's always the one telling me not to stay out too late, so that I can manage to get up for school the next day, and the one that when you just doing nothing at the beach for hours, makes me get my school work out and start working on it.
So as you can see, Brandy and I have been helping each other with our school lives, and she helps remind me how nice it will be when we're all done. That's why I strongly believe that without her I could never have gotten this far, and I hope she stays around and we stay friends so that we can both finish school together.

My brother's 'O' Level results

Whenever I look at my brother's crumpled piece of paper, memories of my brother's 'O' Level results Day would flash across my mind. This is him telling me the story...
“Kriiiinggg!!!” the alarm bell rang. I reluctantly woke up from my sleep. I was building sandcastles in the air and was getting to the climax of my dream when the alarm rang. I trudged out of my bed reluctantly trudged out of my bed and took a bath. I had gone out with my friends last night and had only returned after midnight. After I showered, I put on my clothes and got ready to go to my part-time job. I went downstairs for breakfast.”Why are you still here?” my mom asked. “I'm going to work soon. Don't worry, ”I assured her. She immediately put a frown on her face. “Today is the release of your 'O' Level results and you are going to work?” she asked. I jolted up. I had forgotten all about my results! It also happened to me four years ago during the PSLE results. I quickly changed into my uniform and took a cab to school

I could not wait to receive my result slip. However, excited as I was, we had to wait. I always wanted to go to Victoria Junior College and continue my “Victorian-hood”. After the speech by the principal, we lined up according to our register numbers. My name is Zhao Han, therefore, my register number was the last. “Best for last?” I thought. All my friends received good results. My best friend Chen Hao got six points and was bound for Victoria Junior College. Suddenly, I had doubts about myself because I only started studying three weeks before the exams. It was finally my turn and I took my result slip gingerly. I was reluctant to open it but Chen Hao cheered me on. I was disappointed to see that I had scored a meagre 15 points. I crushed the result slip.

I stood, dazed, holding the crumpled piece in my tightly clenched fist. I was dumbfounded. I did not know how to explain to my parents my poor results. They would be more disappointed than I was. I trudged home sadly. I wanted to waste time. I was influenced by bad company and went out with them. Whenever I did so, I would lie to my parents and tell them I had supplementary classes. I should have studied more ; even during recess instead of playing soccer. I felt like I had wasted my entire four years in Victoria School. I should have listened to my teachers' and parents' advice. Finally, I reached home and was welcomed with open arms by Mom and Dad. You were not home then. As soon as I told them my results, they let go of me and my mother slapped me. I did not blame her. I deserved it.

My parents scolded me and asked me to write a reflection of what I should have done and what I had done wrong. I managed to get into a Junior College and promised them that I would improve. All I had to do was “play hard and study harder.” I came up with that motto to motivate myself and tell myself I can play and study if I could manage my time well. Now, I am in National Service and I still carry that crumpled slip and my motto: “play hard, study harder.”

Every Day as A Friday

I love Fridays, and I'm not alone. Most people associate the last the last day of the workweek with feelings of relief, relaxation and anticipation of good times to come in the weekend ahead. You know there has to be something special about a day when the feeling of celebration that accompanies its arrival is even commemorated in the name of a restaurant chain. And so, I , too, celebrate Fridays. after dropping my brother off my brother at school, I head to Starbucks, to pick up a coffee treat of one type or another. Then, instead of walking straight home, I generally take a long route through the most scenic roads I could find, which usually includes my favourite corner of the park. On and on throughout, I find myself smiling and happy that for no other reason than that the day's name starts with "F", rather than an "M","T",or "W".

                                                                The Starbucks I went to

When I pick my brother up later in the afternoon, we high-five physically and vocally, our chorus of "Friday!" resonating at least as loudly as our hand slap. Then we point out to each other the signs of  beginning of celebration around the streets. Secondary school student playing soccer on the faternity lawns and burgers being flipped on the barbeque pit.T.G.I.Friday!
